Know before you go

  • Rare renosterveld with spring flowers, 100-plus bird species and the best cross-Cape view in the northern suburbs.
  • Trails range from a 380 m toddler loop to a full end-to-end traverse — mix and match.
  • Gates close in the late afternoon — check the board at entry.

If you need help

A fenced city reserve with marked paths — callouts are rare and minor. Heat on the open renosterveld slopes is the only real hazard.

Emergency exit

All paths lead back to a boundary fence or the Kristo Pienaar centre at the Welgemoed gate within about 1 km.

Cell reception

Good throughout.

Welgemoed entrance, Tygerberg Nature Reserve (top of Totius Street, Welgemoed)
