Tranquillity Cracks
Route-finding is genuinely difficult — there are no signposts to the Cracks and multiple sources report getting lost. Do not attempt without a GPS track, a guide, or a detailed written route description. The Back Table in mist is particularly disorienting.
Know before you go
One of Cape Town's most rewarding hidden routes — a maze of sandstone cracks, yellowwood trees, and narrow passages high above Camps Bay. Best done as a loop: up Corridor Ravine, through the Cracks, and down Kasteelspoort. Not suitable for anyone needing to squeeze through narrow passages (some gaps are tight). Allow extra time for exploration inside the Cracks.
Rescue history
Most incidents involve hikers who have lost the route on the unmarked Back Table section and become benighted or stranded. Always carry a headlamp and extra water — the Back Table feels deceptively flat but distances are greater than they appear.
Spotty. Signal is poor in Corridor Ravine and on the Back Table.
Return down Corridor Ravine (the ascent route) or descend Kasteelspoort to the Pipe Track. Both reach Theresa Avenue.
Theresa Avenue, Camps Bay (Pipe Track / jeep track to Corridor Ravine)
