Shoreline trail
Rogue waves sweep people off Cape rocks every year. Stay off wet, dark rock, keep well back from the water's edge, and never turn your back on the sea. Take extra care at spring tide and in big swell.
Know before you go
- Flat, wild walking to the biggest natural water body at Cape Point — bontebok, red hartebeest and ostrich are regulars.
- Zero shelter — in heat or a gale the flatness stops being easy.
- Shares the Olifantsbos start with the Shipwreck Trail; combine them for a longer day.
If you need help
Few incidents — the risk profile is heat, wind and losing the faint path in low cloud, not terrain. Carry water; there is none on route.
Emergency exit
The circuit never strays more than about 3 km from Olifantsbos — retrace your route or cut west toward the coast road.
Cell reception
Patchy across the plateau.
Start point
Olifantsbos parking, Cape of Good Hope section of Table Mountain National Park
Parking: Olifantsbos parking, inside the park gates. Baboons raid open cars — close windows.

Best time of year
Spring for flowers and calm days. A summer south-easter turns the open plateau miserable.
