Table Mountain NP
Orange Kloof
Entry is PERMIT REQUIRED — SANParks strictly limits daily visitor numbers. Do not enter without a valid permit. The gorge involves river crossings that can become impassable after heavy rain. Flash flooding is a serious risk.
Know before you go
One of the most pristine wilderness areas on the Cape Peninsula — a dense Afromontane forest with yellowwood and Cape beech. Permit-limited to protect the ecosystem. Apply for permits through SANParks well in advance, especially during school holidays. River shoes recommended for the crossings.
Rescue history
A remote and serious wilderness route. The indigenous Afromontane forest makes navigation difficult and conditions in the gorge change rapidly after rain. Rescue response to Orange Kloof is significantly longer than to Table Mountain's northern face.
Spotty. Signal drops significantly in the gorge and indigenous forest.
Return up through the gorge to Constantia Nek. There is no alternative rapid exit from the lower gorge.
Constantia Nek (permit required — collect from SANParks office before arrival; numbers strictly controlled)
