Distance
7 km circuit
Time
2.5–3 hr
Elevation gain
400 m
Summit
754 m
The ridge and summit are very exposed to SE winds — gusts can be strong enough to unbalance hikers on the narrow sections near the peak. Mist can reduce visibility rapidly. Do not attempt in SE gale conditions.
Know before you go
- Spectacular views over Noordhoek Beach, Chapman's Peak, Hout Bay, and False Bay.
- Dog-friendly with a valid SANParks My Activity Permit.
- Cash only at the gate — no card payment.
If you need help
Exposed ridge terrain requires careful footing. Inside Silvermine there is no cell signal — communicate plans before entering. The Noordhoek Peak Circuit is a popular dog-walking and trail-running route; rescue response times are reasonable but cell signal limits communication. Silvermine was burnt in the major April 2025 wildfire — most paths and facilities reopened by late 2025, but check SANParks for any lingering closures.
Emergency exit
Return to the Silvermine Gate 1 parking via the jeep track. The circuit can be cut short by retracing rather than completing the loop.
Cell reception
Patchy. Better on the summit, weaker in the valley.
Start point
Silvermine Nature Reserve Gate 1 (dam parking), Ou Kaapse Weg — cross the reservoir wall and follow the jeep track up
Parking: Silvermine Gate 1 dam parking. Cash only. Gate closes at 18:00.
