Multiple river crossings that flood fast after rain — never cross a rising river; wait or turn back. Only 24 permits a day; no permit, no entry.
Know before you go
- Two waterfalls with deep pools — the second, 40 minutes past the first, is worth the scramble.
- CapeNature permit from the Limietberg office — 24 a day, first come first served.
- Leave nothing visible in your car at the trailhead.
If you need help
Hikers trapped between rising crossings are the recurring winter callout. The kloof is cold, shaded and out of signal — overdue parties are hard to reach.
Emergency exit
Back along the river path — the crossings you came through are the only way out.
Cell reception
None in the kloof. Brief signal near the toll plaza.
Start point
Krom River gate near the Huguenot Tunnel toll plaza, Du Toitskloof (R101 side)
Parking: Parking near the toll plaza gate. Break-ins happen — leave the car empty.
