The Kloof Corner Ridge variation above the Contour Path involves serious rock climbing with chains and significant exposure — a trail runner died here in 2020 after the route gained social media attention. The standard hike to the trig beacon is safe, but do not be drawn onto the ridge above without an experienced guide and correct equipment.

Know before you go

  • One of Cape Town's best sunset spots — the trig beacon looks directly across at Lion's Head and over Camps Bay.
  • A torch is essential if hiking out after dark.
  • The Contour Path at the top connects to Platteklip Gorge and the India Venster trail.

If you need help

The lower Kloof Corner hike to the Contour Path trig beacon is low-risk. The ridge above is a different matter entirely — do not conflate the two routes.

Emergency exit

Return down the same path. The trail is out-and-back to the trig beacon.

Cell reception

Good for most of the route.
