Table Mountain NP
India Venster
Multiple chain and scrambling sections with significant exposure to heights. Not suitable for those with a fear of heights. Route-finding is difficult — yellow footprints on rock are often faded. Do not descend via India Venster.
Know before you go
One of the most rewarding routes up Table Mountain, showcasing three sides of the mountain. No permit required. Descend via Platteklip Gorge or the cable car — not via India Venster. A guide is strongly recommended for inexperienced hikers.
Rescue history
Route-finding errors are the primary incident cause. Hikers who stray off the marked path can reach serious cliff edges. Wet rock dramatically increases fall risk on the chain sections.
Spotty. Signal unreliable between the Contour Path and the summit.
The Contour Path at the base of the route offers the only realistic early exit. Once above the scrambling sections, retreat is difficult — the summit and cable car descent is the safer option.
Lower Cableway Station, Tafelberg Road (50m to the right of the cable car entrance)
