Chapman's Peak Drive
Chapman's Peak Trail
High wind and exposure on the summit and upper ridges. The trail is open and unshaded — carry sun protection and extra water. Check weather before setting out; the summit is treacherous in strong SE conditions.
Know before you go
The summit offers one of the most dramatic views on the Cape Peninsula — Hout Bay to the north and Noordhoek Long Beach to the south. The lower section of the trail runs parallel to the famous cliff-hugging drive. No toll required to hike — use the pedestrian entrance at the base of the climb.
Rescue history
Incidents are rare but the remote location means response times are longer than on Table Mountain. The area falls under WSAR jurisdiction — call 021 937 0300.
Spotty. Limited signal on the upper sections.
Return the way you came to the Chapman's Peak Drive parking area.
Chapman's Peak parking (Hout Bay side of Chapman's Peak Drive — access via the toll gate or the free hiking entrance at the base)
